Use your existing contacts

Yes, you are starting a new chapter in your life and you are leaving most of your friends behind. However, it’s doesn’t mean it’s forbidden to stay in touch with them. Even better, plan your move ahead. Hire help from professional companies like, and call your friends to help you with packing. This is a great chance to ask them to help you meet some new people in your new city. There is a good chance some of your friends, or friends’ friends, know someone in your area. Let them help you make some new contacts. Contacts are important, the more people you know greater are chances you will find real friends. So, make sure you grab all the contacts and no to hesitate to get in touch, even just for a coffee. Sometimes, just a small talk can make you a day.

Go out and explore your new city

Exploration is a great way to get to know your surroundings and potentially meet new people. It’s not just for those with the adventurous spirit, it’s for everyone. In the end, you will want to know your neighborhood better, anyway. However, wondering alone throughout a new city can sound intimidating. Well, as long as you are doing it during the day there is nothing to fear about. Nights can be tricky, depending on which city you are moving to. But once you know your area better, even nights won’t be a problem.

Meet different types of people

We usually classify ourselves into certain groups and type and tend to stick to similar types of people. Moving to a new place can be a good reminder and an opportunity to change this. Don’t hang out only with people of your age, or with people with similar backgrounds. Give others a chance and you will soon realize how your previous rules were too strict. We usually take this for granted but people with the same interests have similar experiences. Eventually, It can become boring talking about the same thing over and over again.

Get yourself a dog

It is commonly known that dog owners are spending their time together while taking their pets for a walk. It’s beneficial for pets and for the people as well. You might want to consider getting yourself a dog and you will soon see how hanging out in parks is never being easier. Even with complete strangers. This is especially true if you move anywhere in sunny Florida. In a blink of an eye, you will know half of your neighborhood.

The gym is a great place to meet new people

Making yourself fit and meeting new people at the same time? Yeah, why not? The gym will provide you the opportunity to do both things in the same place. In general, just a few visits are enough to remember all the new faces, and soon enough you will start talking to them. Whether it is a small talk about exercising techniques or complaining about the rough day at work, it’s a great start. We, people, like to complain to each other about everything, it’s in our nature.

Find something interesting to volunteer

This is a nice way to show that you care about your new community. Not only you will meet many new faces but you will automatically make a good first impression. Sometimes, the first impression is the most countable thing when talking with a new person. If your first impression is good, then the other person will want to talk to you again. But, the purpose of volunteering is not to be likable, well, not the primary purpose at least. The purpose is to find something you are passionate about and something that will not bore you so easily. And, of course, to help. The animal shelter is a great example of a place where you can volunteer.

It’s really a great chance to start a conversation with strangers. In fact, don’t be surprised if they start the conversation before you.

In the end, if you are still having trouble to make friends after moving to a new city, then online apps can be a great choice. We are living in the internet era so it’s perfectly normal, or at least acceptable, to keep most of your connection alive throughout the internet. Of course, it’s not the same thing as talking face to face, but it’s a good way to make plans for future activities with your friends.
